The Museum of Anthropology is located in a spectacular setting on the very western edge of the University of British Columbia (UBC). It houses ethnographic materials and the UBC Laboratory of Archaeology's archaeological materials. There are some 30,000 ethnographic objects and 200,000 archaeological objects in these collections. The ethnographic objects derive from many parts of the world, including the South Pacific, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Permanent exhibits emphasize the First Nations of coastal B.C., from whom almost half of the collections originate.
Every year, more than 170,000 students, researchers, schoolchildren, special delegations, tourists, and other visitors, singly or in groups, from nearby or around the world, visit MOA. year after year, MOA is selected as one of Vancouver's and Canada's best loved museums on the basis of its spectacular setting, stunning displays of Northwest Coast art, and active programming. In 1989, the Canadian Tourism Commission voted MOA "Tourist Attraction of the Year - Canada" in recognition of its exceptional popularity with local and international audiences.
Vancouver English Centre takes VEC students on an excursion to the Museum of Anthropology every month. While there, we visit the University of British Columbia campus, to see the sights. This trip is a must for any students who are thinking of applying for admission to UBC or any other universities in Canada. Ask your friendly VEC Activities Coordinators for more information.
